Greek Slovaki Chicken With Heinz Salad Cream!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Heinz salad cream is 100 years old!

It was originally created by Charles Hellen, a brilliant manager who had been hand-selected by the Heinz family to lead the Heinz business in the UK, and who worked tirelessly for eight years to perfect the taste of Heinz Salad Cream for British palates. In 1914 the product was launched exclusively at Fortnum & Mason before becoming an instant hit with all ages across the nation.

Even during times of war, Heinz Salad Cream was the Heinz sauce everyone relied upon – as Heinz Tomato Ketchup had fallen prey to rationing – adding some well needed zing to the blandness of wartime meals.

Today, Heinz Salad Cream is still the ‘Original Tangy Taste’ that makes it one of Britain’s best-loved sauces. Heinz Salad Cream has 60% less fat than mayonnaise and has no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

To celebrate their landmark centenary birthday check out the Heinz Facebook page for recipe ideas and tips and come up with your own salad cream recipe like I have done with this take on Greek Slovaki!

Slovaki is traditionally made with tzatziki using yogurt, mint, cucumber and garlic but I’ve used Heinz salad cream in replace of the yogurt for a really special and zingy version! Hope you like the recipe!

Greek Slovaki With Heinz Salad Cream Tzatziki!

Ingredients:

Chicken breasts or pork chops, diced

Peppers, diced,

Onions, diced

Spicy seasoning to taste (I use Cajun)

Heinz salad cream

Cucumber, diced

Mint leaves, torn

Garlic, pressed

Salt and pepper

Extra virgin olive oil

Pitta bread

Method:

Kebab the chicken or pork with the peppers and onions (use one breast or chop per person). Place in a baking dish and  sprinkle with the seasoning and olive oil before cooking in the oven on 200 for half an hour.

Mix the Heinz salad cream (one tablespoon per person) with a small handful of the cucumber and mint, a teaspoon of the garlic, a squeeze of lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste.

Toast the pittas, fill with the Heinz salad cream tzatziki and a kebab and serve!
