I’ve always been a fan of crafting. I love modelling clay and making cards and I’m actually quite good at lots of it. Since having children though and I’ve not had so much time so I’ve trailed off a bit.It hasn’t really been until Florence (who at 4 is AMAZING at arts and crafts) has become a craft fan that I’ve returned my attention to the hobby
I’m not wonderful at knitting or crochet like my Mum is but after her fabulous effort in crochet and knitting last year when I asked for two Christmas elves to join our family in the run up to the big day I now have added those to my long list of crafting skills I want to gain!
My Mum knitted one of these elves and did the other one by crochet in a couple of evenings! She’s amazing and it has totally inspired the crafter in me to learn new skills! (This is when they turned the milk blue one pesky December morning!)
With crafting very firmly on my to do list for this year it has taken me a while to get going but after being invited to the Hobbycraft Christmas press show I am now more inspired than ever, I definitely want to learn how to knit and crochet but they showed me things I could make with very little skill or knowledge at all!
I loved the pom pom maker which took a minute, if that, to make wonderfully plump pom poms that Florence will definitely be able to do as well and they had some amazing kits by Kirtsy Allsopp to make your own beautiful items like make up bags and pin cushions! Love it!
But strangely enough, the thing I found myself most intrigued by was the Duck Tape which comes in all sorts of colours and patterns. Tape, you may think, is a bit boring but there’s all sorts of things you can make with it and they have ideas on their site. They showed me how to make a rosette ribbon and I felt so inspired by how easy it was to fold the tape over and push it through a pin that I told them i will be making them for the goody bags at Florence’s next birthday party. She is having a ‘Frozen’ theme at her 5th birthday party in December so I have plenty of time to make them and I plan on making lots of other decorations for the party too.
The ribbon I made using Duck Tape at Hobbycraft! So effective don’t you think? And it literally took me about 2 minutes!
Hobbycraft have sent me a range of colours which will compliment the ‘Frozen’ theme so over the next few months I will be creating with them and I will show you the results of course! LOVE this Duck Tape and it’s going to make the party bags and decorations both beautiful and personal! Of course I am also going to be bugging my Mum for some crochet and knitting tips! I want to make some crochet bunting after seeing the beautifully decorated stage at Camp Bestival with just that same thing!
I have not been paid for this post.
I’m working through a tedious part of my latest craft project. I’m making a ledge caravan which is matchsticks glued to sections of card and fitted together. I’m currently trying to cut about a thousand matches to the same size!
