On Saturday the children and I were invited to the gala screening of ‘Home’, the new offering from DreamWorks, at the Vie in Leicester Square. We were mega excited about the film and ahead of the day had watched the trailer with great anticipation. Not only that but Flair, the creators of the toys surrounding the movie, sent us a massive box of their new wares to play with.
By the time the morning of the film came around we already felt like we knew lead character Oh and the rest of the Boov race who want to invade earth under their leader captain Smek’s guidance so that they can avoid their mortal enemy. We had our Boov ears (£3.99) at the ready as we made our way to Bella Italia on Leicester Square where we had a table booked overlooking the blue carpet that we would later be walking down!
At Bella Italia we got to enjoy a yummy lunch with Flair while the children familiarised themselves with more from the toy range while the excitement was building by the second!
At home Florence and Jimmy had taken a particular shine to the Animated Dancing Plush of the character Oh and the ‘shusher wand’ which also produces lines from the film. I knew when that when they had actually SEEN the film they would enjoy the toys EVEN more! I’d said no to bringing the dancing Oh out with us as I thought it might be a bit much to have in the cinema but somewhere along the way Jimmy managed to adopt another one and into the cinema Oh came. In fact, but the time we hit our seats Jimmy was merchandised up to the max – anyone would think he OWNED the film!
The film was absolutely awesome and with voices from Rihanna, Steve Martin and Jim Parsons it was as starry and funny as you would hope for! I did have to keep checking that Oh was Oh and not Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory as his voice is so familiar to me in that role but other than that we were all fully immersed in this, a story about Aliens and being human… Know what I mean? No, so go and see it! It’s funny, sweet, inspiring, quirky, ballsy and most of all it’s about being a good person and having a heart. We LOVED it!
And… As predicted we fell into that box of toys even harder once we’d seen the film. The Animated Dancing Plush Oh is actually hilarious and I love how he spins around on the floor although I did have to draw a line under him being put on the ground in Leicester Square to do so… No body likes a dirty bottom!
The other toys are pretty fun too and we really, really like the very affordable mood figures which come in their own little bubble just like the transport Boov use in the film! There are also colour changing Boov toys (when you see the film you will realise why Boov change colour so often), dolls and loads more!
The film was ace (catch it at the cinema from 27th March) and the toys do it wonderfully proud! Can we see it again now please?
We were invited to the premiere of Home and gifted some toys by Flair.
