Home Leaving and Home Making!

There’s lots of things that make me sad about our impending move to Norfolk. Leaving friends, our lovely school, everything the children have ever known… Heck, I’m even sad about leaving our little flat because sentimentality is something I have in abundance. I get a little sad saying goodbye to a hotel room after one night so turning my back on out Victorian terrace conversion, the home I brought my children home to for the first time, is, as you’d imagine, rather difficult. I gave birth to my baby boy in our living room – how will another house compete with that?!

But…

There are reasons why we chose to make this move and the biggest of them all is space. At the moment the children share a bedroom and there’s not enough room to swing a cat let alone two small whirling dervishes. Jimmy’s toddler bed is underneath his sister’s midi and the poor thing can’t even sit up! I’ve done my best with storage solutions in our home, which is, literally half a house and their challenging bedroom has been thoughtfully arranged and rearranged many times over to squeeze the maximum out of it that we can. And now? Well, there comes a limit and we’ve exhausted all options. Half a house isn’t big enough for a family and half a bedroom each isn’t enough for the children.

The move is happening and while half of me feels very sad about it, the rest of me is looking forward to us all having enough room!

I’ve so many plans for our new house. It has four bedrooms but we’re going to go up into the loft and make a huge 5th with a big freestanding bath in the room. The kitchen is going to be ripped out and we will knock into the garage to make it bigger, it’s there I plan on having a range oven big enough to cook 4 joints in If I felt like it as opposed to my one now which barely takes one… We’re planning on a wood burning stove in the garden room and many, many DIY projects but the thing I am most looking forward to is finally giving the children a room of their own and getting to decorate them absolutely perfectly for them!

I remember being 8 and a half months pregnant and stood on a step ladder painting that room in the picture above for Florence. I knew it could never be perfect because all her Daddy’s music gear also had to be stored in there (and still is) but I wanted to do the best I could. I hung bunting and did my absolute best. I was pleased with it but it was always a compromise and now… Now we don’t have to have any compromises whatsoever. Florence can have the room she and I have always dreamed of and I know that she feels the same as me, we can’t wait!

So we’ve been looking at girl’s bedroom ideas everywhere. From Pinterest to things we see on the T.V and we have some great ideas. She’s going to have what is currently the master bedroom (before we make our loft room) and it has an en suite. We quite fancy an ‘under the sea’ theme for her bathroom with lots of sparkle and mermaids for good girlie measure and for the bed room itself we haven’t made any firm choices but pink is definitely going to be a main feature. She wants a trundle type bed, with a bed that pulls out from underneath and even though we are going to have loads more room than we are used to, I still don’t want to eat it all up! I want to stick to clever storage and creating space for her to play!

So moving is both difficult and exciting at the same time but it’s the right time and the right thing. I’ll keep you posted on our decorating projects and when the children’s rooms are finished (I think Jimmy is after a ‘space’ and ‘rocket’ theme, of course I shall have to show you the pictures!
