The London Transport Museum Festive Season 2019!

Massive fans of The London Transport Museum that we are we visit whenever we can when in London. It’s easy to drop in for a couple of hours and combine it with something else that we’ve been doing in town as the annual tcket price is exactly the same as a day ticket and very, very reasonable indeed. When buying tickets simply ask them to make it annual and for just £16.50 (if you buy on line) you can have a whole year of Transport Museum fun – and note that’s just adults for kiddos up to the age of 17 go fancy free anyway! So… There, I’ve got my most important piece of Transport Museum info to you and now on with the rest!

The London Transport Museum!

The museum is awesome, full of actual disused transportation modes from the 1800s onwards and children (and grown-ups) can climb on and off buses and tube trains, trams and taxis to their hearts delight. You get in the lift when you first arrive and the date as the lift moves up goes back as you become a time traveller and when you start at the very beginning you are taken through the decades to see how people moved and worked and built transport in London up to present day.

Fun on the buses!
And in the play areas!

The exhibits are fun and engaging with the likes of talking horses. They are immersive as you step onto platforms and into carriages from eras gone past and they are also hands on as kids get to try out driving tube trains, stopping the DLR, climbing inside bomb shelters and watching over as people build the tube lines. It is a visual party once inside the museum and this Christmas they have gone the extra mile to make it even more inviting!

And inside the trains!

Santa’s Got A New Sleigh at the London Transport Museum from the 30th of November until the 5th of January and when you visit your ticket price will include all of the festive activities!

One of the boys is a LITTLE bit wary of Father Christmas!

They say:

Santa will be visiting us all throughout December. Visit him in his secret hideaway, full of twinkling lights and comfy seats, or see if you can track him down in one of the heritage vehicles in the Museum for a super Santa Selfie! There’s storytime and singing sessions for the little ones, and your chance to make special bunting and decorations to take home. If you’re looking to see the sights (and lights) of London, then why not book a ticket for our Lights & Sights tour? There’s family and adult-only events available to jump on a vintage bus and tour some of the most spectacular Christmas sights you can find in the Capital. And don’t forget our shop – in Covent Garden or online! Pick up unique Christmas gifts for the whole family or treat yourself to one of our comfy Christmas jumpers – complete with buses, Tubes, snowflakes and roundels (of course!)

Well we went yesterday (minus Florence who was gutted but she was poorly) with the Modern Mummy gang and had the most fabulous time, as always!

Looking down into Santa’s grotto from the floor above – in here are crafts, stories, Santa meet and greets and more!

Not only did we have fun in the main museum as well as the Christmas crafts and meeting Santa but we got to stop off, rest and recharge in the newly renovated Canteen which is on the platform (good use of the word platform) above the Transport Museum shop.

Refuelling in the newly re-opened Canteen!

The restaurant was great when we’ve eaten there before but the renovated way the seats are positioned works much better and their menu is delish! We all ate a feast and for a family the prices are excellent – don’t mind spending a bit of money on good food and actually when the cost is very reasonable it makes it even better – I would suggest they add a bit of salad garnish to the burger perhaps to just make myself feel better about carb loading but that’s my only niggle. Kiddos can choose from pasta, pizza, fish or chicken and can combine that with veggies or chis as they choose. The basic meal is £5.25 and then you can add a drink for £1 and desert for £2.25 – very reasonable indeed!

The menu is ace with lots to choose from!
And staff are very accommodating of the smaller kind!
A smile to be expected when faced with chocolate brownie and ice cream!

Grown up food too is pretty delicious too I have to add, take a look at THIS, the brownie again in all its glory!

Yum!
We brought a cupcake home from the Canteen for Florence as a little bit of a blow softener to missing out on the day!

And then as well as the great dining and wonderful festive fun alongside the museum we love there is the shop… Oh the shop! Moquette is the material used for all the upholstery on public transport in London and you can buy all the varying prints (different ones for each line) used to upholster pieces for the home. We have a magazine rack which we bought when we left London but I ALWAYS have my eye on more and don’t forget the amazing Christmas jumpers! We had them last year and every time I’ve shared pics of the kids wearing last year’s version I’ve been inundated with people asking where they are from. This year they have a new batch and they’re JUST AS GOOD!

Me in the 2018 jumper and Jimmy and I both sporting a hat and scarf combo from 2019!

Get your festive London Transport Museum jumpers in the museum shop or on line and please do use a special code the museum have offered to my readers which will get you 20% off anything in the festive shop including the Christmas jumpers! Just quote ROCKNROLLERBABY20 when purchasing.

So… As far as festive fun for the family in London goes this is right up there with a little bit of something for everyone, a stop for the whole day, food, festive jumpers and more! Hope that you enjoy it as much as we did!

The main bonus to visiting The London Transport Museum for a family (aside from how good it is) is that it is so inexpensive to access – Even Father Christmas costs nothing extra and that’s a real gem especially when each child gets a gift of a badge and to be able to bring home their crafts. Round of festive applause for the London Transport Museum please!

We were invited to experience the festivities at The London Transport Museum as guests of the Museum.
