Peppa Pig’s Festive Treasure Hunt!

Last year one of our highlight theatre experiences was our trip to see Peppa Pig’s Treaure Hunt! Florence, like most of the little ones we’re friends with, is a major fan of the little piggy family created by Astley, Baker, Davies and was thrilled to bits to see her in the live show even at not quite two yet! She’s such a big fan that last Christmas her presents were mainly Peppa related and I remember wondering if it was really sensible to have so many gifts around the genre when I couldn’t imagine her like for the show being just as strong a year on. I was wrong it seems because Peppa and her family are very much the flavour of the month still, her birthday cake again this year has got to have Peppa on it somewhere, the programme we most watch is still the very same and if we walk past any shop with even just the logo on display we have excited pointing and shouting! Peppa Pig is an icon for our pre-schoolers and just like teenage girls flocked to the Beatles and stones in the 60’s, toddlers scream, shout and get over excited whenever they see her. I don’t know what Astley, Baker and Davies know that the rest of us don’t but they certainly do know it! Peppa Pig delights children from really tiny right up to school and beyond in some cases so I would never doubt that she would enjoy a Peppa themed experience!

When I heard she was back in London’s West End for more Treasure Hunting with a Christmassy edge then I was very excited to take Florence, now at nearly three, to see the show again! She remembered the last time and kept asking ‘Will there be the boat Mummy’. That had been her favourite part it seems so I was so pleased to see the show had everything it had last year only now, because it’s nearly Christmas, they also had a special surprise guest at the end of the show. Someone wearing red… The chap who hands out the presents… You know the guy I mean! It all got just a bit festive and fun right before the show closed which made it the perfect Christmas treat!

What I loved most about the show last year and still love about it now is that the songs, which the audience can join in with, are the wonderfully catchy ones from the show! Other highlights are the fact that the favourite characters (even Polly Parrott) are performing,  being helped along by puppeteers who also provide their voices which are super close sounding to the ones in the cartoon. I think that’s very important to a little one and would be a little annoying for them if they weren’t, so the actors/puppeteers have done a marvellous job recreating that. It’s odd because after a while you don’t really see the puppeteers behind Peppa Pig, Zoe Zebra, Danny Dog and co and it’s just the little character faces you watch. They are brilliant puppets and their handlers are extremely skilled, I loved their facial expressions! The gang are led by Daisy, a girl, on a treasure hunt where they visit mountains, forests and the sea all with the aid of public transport driven by none other than Miss Rabbit of course! It’s a very sweet story with some lovely and clever aspects to it that will delight and engage the children. Florence and the other tiny audience members were all grinning from ear to ear the whole way through and Jimmy simply loved the underwater scene at the rock pool! (That part was especially clever by the way!)

A wonderful show and with a festive touch for this time of year it’s an absolute must see for pre-schoolers and their families!
