Florence looked at this toy when I told her it was for her age and said she thought it was a baby toy. It does look a lot like one of the baby toys she had when she was tiny, the one that Jimmy plays with now, so I could understand her reluctance to think that this one might be more exciting but I managed to persuade her that this Plan Toys Fun Sorting Toy was definitely for her and not her brother!
Putting rings over the hoop. Yes, she can do that and she didn’t really care to demonstrate but I explained that she might find this one a little harder as it wasn’t JUST rings on a hoop and all was not as it may seem. The stem of the toy, that which the hoops are placed over, has little nobbles sticking out of it which makes placing an ordinary hoop over the top impossible as they would hit a nobble and get stuck. The hoops however, rather like a key, have cut outs with which you can wriggle and jiggle them over said nobbles. In the end she rather enjoyed the challenge!
You go in colour order, the first nobble is blue and the blue hoop has four cut outs making it the easiert. The second, which has three cut outs is yellow. The green hoop is next with just two cut outs and lastly, the yellow one has just one area which will fit over. It was a test for her and took a bit of thinking and planning. Once it was mastered we then made it a bit more difficult by bending the stem!
Florence is quite good at concentration tasks and also is very capable of working out and planning; all of these qualities are required for this one. I wouldn’t say she found it particularly taxing but it took her time and would be excellent for a child who needed to work on skills like this. We love that its made from sustainable materials and is a very attractive addition to the toy box! 3+ is an age that I would say is bordering on the latter end of who it might be enjoyable for so in my opinion I would say 18m+ would be a better guide.
I was not paid to write this post but was sent the toy for the purpose of review.
