The Secret Life Of Pets – Blossom And Fuzzy The Kittens!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Blossom and Fuzzy are our new pets. To introduce them properly I should probably give you their full names which are Princess Blossom Petal and Fuzzy Wuzzy Tiddles. Don’t ask… Let’s just say allowing the 4 and 6 year old to name them played a massive part in their bonkers monikers!

They are lovely but very, very naughty! We can forgive them their food stealing, curtain climbing and claw sharpening on any object they shouldn’t because… Well, they’re SO cute! And… We’ve waited a really long time for them. We had our old cat Bollo when we lived in London but our old cat Bollo was a bit of a beast and when we had the children he unfortuately had to go on a permanent sabbatical to my Mum’s! The thing about Bollo is that he’s just a really BAD cat and we call him the BEAST for very good reason!

Bollo the beast

Bollo doesn’t really like people and… He let’s ‘people’ know this with a very sharp scratch or bite as he trots past. He LOOKS very serene and calm but as those ankles pad past him he can’t resist and he’s such a huge cat it became impossible for us to have him when the little ones were around. He also got himself into a LOT of trouble in London and had fights with practically anything that moved. Foxes, dogs, other cats… You name it. He was also SO volatile at the vet’s that they refused to see him without full sedation and what with his many fights this could have been a very pricey affair. One visit, after a fox’s claw got embedded in his back, resulted in a £1,400 bill! Thank goodness for Petplan insurance is all I can say because how we’d have afforded to keep him otherwise I do not know?

Fortunately, after leaving London and moving to the countryside he has either calmed down or doesn’t find as many things to fight with? Either way he is happier and we have less trouble from him. My Mum does however still have to walk down the hall with a ‘poking stick’ to make sure she can fend him off for if he attacks…

Despite his nasty temper the children did miss him in London and I promised them that as soon as we moved house we would get some kittens. This was about 3 years ago so when we finally made the move they were champing at the bit to invite Blossom and Fuzzy into the fold. And it’s been rather lovely getting to know them and their kitten antics. They will sleep most of the time! Often in funny places like the washing machine… And then they race around like mad things wasting energy. They are cute and sweet and the kiddos love them but they ARE very monkeyish too…

We were asked by Pet Plan, who provide that invaluable insurance we took out for Bollo (who is happy as Larry these days and hasn’t needed to use it for yonks – touch wood), if we would like to take part in a little campaign they are running to co-incide with the film, The Secret Life Of Pets’ who they are the brand partner to and which was released earlier in the year. Petplan have been around since 1976 with a priority to keeping the nation’s pets healthy and their owners happy with the very best pet insurance policies and great customer service which has helped millions of owners get their beloved pets back on their feet following illness and injury. Including us! We have been in the boat of not just using their service but relying on it and I have never had any difficulties when making a claim. I absolutely HAD to say yes to this offer, PLUS, the film looks absolutely awesome, just watch the trailer!

So what did they want me to do? Well, they wanted me to capture what the kittens get up to in their own secret lives… What do they do when no one is looking?! I was asked to film them in secret using a monitor camera and report back but… Unfortunayely my camera didn’t work so I had to film them not so secretly instead. Luckily, kittens don’t seem to be that bothered about who can and can’t see them and they go about doing what they want to do regardless of any onlookers. And the project HAS helped me get to the bottom of something… For weeks now I have been wondering why we have water splashes in the bathroom and when I got the camera out in the middle of the night to follow the little feline pair I managed to discover one of their dirtier habits, one which they must have been doing a LOT if the splashes are anything to go by… They are DRINKING the toilet water… YUCK! Actually one of the characters in the film does this too so perhaps they are in good company. As well as drinking the toilet water they are also masters at rolling around fighting in inapproproate places… Any room they are not allowed in they will make a beeline for and because they hadn’t had injections until last week the boot room, with easy access to the outside, was absolutely out of bounds. But… They would get in there by hook or by crook!

Hope that you like our little captures of their secret lives and please note, we aren’t going anywhere without the toilet seat lids being DOWN from now on!

Well, that was our little duo living their secret lives which mainly involve ruining the bathroom. What do your pets get up to?

This post has been made possible by Petplan but all thoughts are our own. Petplan Insurance are the brand partner of ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ family film which was released earlier this year. The new movie from Universal is a comedy all about the lives pets lead after we leave the home for work or school each day. The Secret Life of Pets © 2016 Universal Studios.
