Short Breaks In The UK – Where To Go!

The short break, or as Bridget Jones would call it, ‘a mini break, is the saviour of us sometimes I think. Just a perfect little space of time taken for ourselves and a step outside the ordinary even if only for a weekend! The beauty of them comes in raptures but one massive plus is that you don’t have to disappear far from home to really feel like you’ve had a break and if you choose your destination well then you might not even have to take a day off work!

I think some of the most rested trips that I have had have been from short breaks in the UK where perhaps I wasn’t expecting as much as I may have done from a full blown holiday. It’s lovely to arrive home on a Sunday evening to a clean house (because of course you will have had time – even if you really didn’t – to make sure you didn’t leave a pig sty and had put clean sheets on the bed) feeling like you’ve really had a break, even if it was a short weekend away!

Let’s face it, big holidays are great but they can cost a lot of money and if you’re wanting some time sans kiddos then babysitters will cost even more – also, I’m not sure I’m ready to leave any of mine for that long to be honest but a short break with Jonny does sound appealing!

You know what… Bridget and Daniel Cleaver definitely had it right when they booked themselves a mini break of dreams in good old Blighty – short and sweet, without breaking the bank and gifting perfectly a dedicated time to enjoy themselves – now whether your fun is reading Keates to your love as as you drift up a river in a boat or if it’s simply to just laze around in a cottage cosying up with a fire on, Powells have some near on perfection in the short break department!

Last time Jonny and I went away for a weekend just us it was for a friend’s wedding and although in my head it wasn’t that long ago it was nearly 5 years!

Powells have some lovely cottages in Pembrokeshire like Corn Loft which looks ideal for us – rural but within a short drive to the town of Solva for bars and restaurants as well as a harbour… I love to stay anywhere that has sea close to me so that I can sniff the salty air and feel the benefits of a sea breeze!

I am always keen to be by the sea and Welsh beaches are just WOW!
Corn Lodge is a Powells Cottage just a short drive from the harbour in Solva!

For me, a holiday abroad without the children is a no go at the moment. I couldn’t leave my one year old and not be able to get in a car and drive back to him and frankly who wants to get on planes for a two night break anyway! A drive to Pembrokeshire sounds just the ticket and though I am still loathe to leave the baby I know something like this would do us good and channelling my inner Bridget has to be seized soon!

So… If you’re thinking of taking a cottage holiday mini break then how about a Powells Cottage in Pembrokeshire, Saundersfoot or Tenby? And I’ve some mini breaking tips to take with you too!

  1. Choose somewhere you can easily drive to so that the end of the mini break isn’t stressful and you can take home with you the relax you bought yourself over the short break!
  2. Have a supermarket delivery to your door for when you arrive – don’t waste time shopping for supplies when you could be enjoying yourselves.
  3. Have no expectations of the weather (this is England after all) and don’t make plans for sunshine must activities!
  4. Take a capsule wardrobe with you – saves on packing AND the washing afterwards!
  5. Delete all apps from your phone and pretend it’s 1996 so you can only make and receive calls if there’s an emergency!

Where you planning on going for your next mini break then?!
