We can honestly say that Stick Man by Julia Donaldson (and Axel Scheffler who illustrates) is one of our favourite books ever. We first read it to Florence as a baby and then when she was a little older we took her to the theatre at Christmas time to see the live show. This then became a bit of a family tradition and we’ve been every year since!
We LOVE Stick Man! And I am sure this is the case for most families with children of a certain age, it’s just a gentle and gorgeous story with the most beautiful pictures and a very happy ending. The live theatre show also has some wonderful songs which we always sing when we read the book and from our first visit, when Stick man was played by an actor with a Scottish accent, when we read it now we always do a Scottish accent for him too!
We were delighted on Christmas Day this year when the Julia Donaldson story we love so much was brought to life for an animated film! With Father Christmas even making an appearance in the story it is the perfect choice and I’ve wondered before why it’s not been done and now it has! We settled down and made a point of not missing a single second and it really was a brilliant Christmas Day addition.
I am delighted then that today marks the launch of the Stick Man DVD and from now on we can watch our very own copy whenever we like. It’s perfect bed time viewing (as well as Christmas Day fodder) and we’re super pleased that we were sent our copy ahead of the release so that we could enjoy it and tell you all about how brilliant it is – and it is!
The DVD comes with a double sided poster inside and the DVD extras include a behind the scenes documentary which is very interesting. The children also enjoyed doing some Stick Man puzzles and reading the story all over again in the build up to us having our first DVD view! You can pick up Stick Man on DVD from today courtesy of Entertainment One!
We’re moving to Norfolk in a couple of week’s time where close by, in Thetford, is a new Stick man trail on the forest. We plan to visit very soon as we love the Gruffalo Trail at Thorndon Country Park close to where we love now and imagine the Stick Man one must be even better because, you know, it’s Stick Man! For now though, we have our DVD! Oh, and our lovely little key ring (who said Stick Man isn’t a hook for a bag?!) and puzzles! We’re actually going to have to track down another of these cute little key ring fellows because the children have both taken rather a shine to him and we think he makes a rather good hook for a bag after all!
We were sent Stick Man on DVD along with some Stick man puzzles and a key ring for the purpose of an honest review.
