A couple of month’s ago the children and I were asked to the premiere of the all new 2016 Teletubbies and we all thought it was absolutely brilliant. I’d remembered Teletubbies from when they first appeared on our screens and despite being in my late teens at the time, such was the cult status of the show, it was very much known to all of my friends too. My friend Angela bought me a little Po toy which my Mum keeps in her bedside drawer for when Florence and Jimmy go and climb in with her when we stay and he is very much loved!
And even though the Teletubbies of old were certainly dated in their video style the show was definitely still enjoyed by many to date including Florence and Jimmy. While the style of original video formatting and the fashions of the real people scenes showed the Teletubbies age, the show itself still gave a very important message that made any aging imperfections pale. It was about time then that they rehashed the old show so that it was brighter, more colourful, more in keeping with the decade of now but it would have disappointed if they’d changed too much. Thankfully, they didn’t!
A new baby, a brighter scene, some different (famous) voices, a telephone and for the first time a character to the Tubby Custard machine. But what stayed were the main four, the rabbits, the hills, the sun, the children in the VTs and the ‘again, again, again’! Well, I guess if it isn’t broken why would you fix it?!
The children had a brilliant time at the premiere and have been watching ever since it started airing on CBeebies. And, of course, it was only a matter of time before a toy range was developed. I’m so pleased that ‘Character‘ got the gig as their toys are always so well made and thought out in the development. I told you about a week ago that we were sent a big box of the new products and now, finally, we can unveil them! The children made an unboxing video for Florence’s YouTube channel, Florence’s Toy Box and they were thrilled with what was inside! Take a look!
As you can see, we have two little fans here!
We were sent a selection of the toys and have been asked to be official Teletubbies toy testers and here’s a closer look at the ones inside our box!
The new Po is very different to my old one and is softer with a velvety face as well as making some of the famous sounds of Po when you squeeze his tummy. The other soft toys are slightly smaller and just as soft to cuddle while the Tubby Custard machine, a toy which is definitely aimed at those younger than mine, has been a mega hit despite Jimmy being three and Florence having just turned six. I suggested that we give it, after we’d played with it for this review, to a little baby friend of ours but they were both horrified at the prospect and have spent hours playing with the pull along toy. It has sounds and as you pull it along the Teletubbies spin around in their chairs. They are very taken with this one and just as much so with the little figurines.
We’re just as impressed with the toys as we are with the show and we can’t wait to see more from the rang. But for now, it’s time for tubby bye bye, time for tubby bye bye!
