We don’t have a real Christmas tree which irks me somewhat. I appreciate that our flat is small, we have tiny children who would play with the dropped needles and a real tree which would essentially get chucked away is a bit of an expense but it still bothers me. Our fake tree does look rather realistic, it’s not made of tinsel and it’s the right colour; you might even be fooled from its look that it IS real which is why my husband is so adamant that we keep it but…

It doesn’t give the Christmassy smell that for me, makes Christmas!

The pine needles penetrate the whole house with the aroma of Christmas and coupled with the yummy food cooking and spices in the air from mulled wine it is a sense memory overload!

Well, I don’t do any festive cooking as we spend the actual day at my Mum’s so even less chance for the house to feel and smell festive! No tree, no spices and no Christmas cake steaming on the cooker… A beautifully decorated tree with baubles and sparkles I have collected over the years but lacking in that deeper quality of being a real live beautifully smelling pine…

I have in light of this fact found a rather good solution.

Scented candles!

I’m not talking the rubbish variety that you can pick up in the supermarket. Not ones which are designed as air fresheners, no… Something classier than that, something which will really give the air a scent of Christmas! Scented candles which are not only beautiful but which smell perfect to help create the mood is what I’m after!

Apple and Pine Needle scented candle by Yankee Candle!

I’ve ordered this (and a few other Christmassy aroma’d candles from www.scentedcandleshop.com and because I’ve used Yankee Candles before, I know it will do the job perfectly! They burn slowly and beautifully with flickering flames whilst making the whole house smell divine!

I love scented candles and these ones, which come in jars, are perfect for gifts! I will be giving a few scented candles as gifts this year because who doesn’t like them? Who wouldn’t use them and they look beautiful to boot!

At last my house is going to have the smell of Christmas about it!
