last week I was invited to an event which incorporated two things I am fairly novice at, exercise and iPhones. I mean obviously I’m not a complete novice at exercise, I haven’t been a slumping lump from the day dot but in November I joined the gym for the first time in years and it sort of feels like it! I am however, completely and utterly brand new to iPhones!
I have had a BlackBerry for as long as I can remember and I loved them so much that when we got a tablet, that too was of the BB variety. It was fine and for a long time stood up to everything else on the market but as Apple seems to be taking over the world there came a point when I could no longer be in the realms of the new digital age without an iPhone. It started just before Christmas when I felt like I was one of those people back in the eighties clinging on to Betamax while everyone else had cottoned on to VHS; I bit the rather expensive bullet and bagged an iPad.
Within a couple of weeks I loved it so much that I bought Florence and my Mum one for Christmas and decided upon my next upgrade it would be an iPhone all the way! Upgrade came around in February and along came my PINK (I may be regressing) iPhone 5c. I love it (although I wouldn’t say I’m entirely used to it yet) and finally, FINALLY, I can now use all the apps I’ve wanted to for an age but which BlackBerry firmly shook its head at!
When Three Mobile invited me to Pineapple studios (yes I thought about buying a neon pink head band) last Saturday it was to show me how to use the newer iPhone 6 and 6+, to introduce me to some fitness apps and to do some of the work outs from them. Well, this sounded just up my street so naturally I accepted the invitation and come 5pm on a Saturday was in a dance studio following an app on an iPhone. I lunged my little legs nearly off and by the time the class finished I felt like I might be about 2 stone lighter (sadly it didn’t match up in the mirror) and was super impressed with the app which is called Zova. The 22 minute full body work out is how we started followed by some of the lighter and shorter ones for a finale. Zova lets you choose from lots of different styles of exercise and is really easy to follow – even for me! It’s free for the first 7 days and then just £9.99 for three months which is very reasonable as the work outs are really good and of course they update too. Clear instructions and a couple of seconds demonstration guide prepare you for each rep and most importantly the work outs are GOOD! I promise you I was aching for days afterwards – I don’t know if I’m mental but I love that ‘worked out ache’ as it feels like you’ve really done something!
After the session in the studio, Three Mobile very kindly took us out for dinner but in order not to ruin all of our hard work we went to a healthy vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Covent Garden called the Wild Food Cafe. Not a sip of alcohol passed my lips (making it a VERY unusual Saturday night) and instead I drank green smoothies and ate burgers made from seeds and beans… Well, maybe? I’m not sure what it was made of actually but it wasn’t meat and it was jolly tasty. I loved the dip, olives and bread at the beginning of the meal and the cake at the end was very interesting, I wouldn’t say I’d choose it over a ‘proper cake’ but it was very nice.
We had a wonderful time working out with the iPhone 6 and 6+ (not sure I managed to work it out any more than my own brand new iPhone a couple of generations back from it) and I found the app Zova which I have used all week since. Florence had tonsillitis this week making gym visits impossible but with Zova work outs at the touch of a button I didn’t get too comfy on the sofa. We’d also been shown an app called my Fitness Pal which records what you eat and gives you an end of day stats report. I see how it could work for some people but it was too much like hard work remembering to input every glass of water for me.
I had a brill time with Three Mobile who before the event I knew little about. I now know quite a bit and lots of it is impressive. Thee thing I was most interested in is their free holiday roaming. They have X amount of countries you can visit where you pay no more than you would at home while using your phone. I LOVE that! I’m currently with Voadafone and 5 years ago they had something similar but canned it after one summer? It was such a. Rolling service that I could never understand why so it’s brilliant to see Three Mobile are with me in thinking we shouldn’t be charged extra just because we’re abroad. Well done Three Mobile, that’s all I can say!
I was invited to this event by Three Mobile.
