3 Awesome Lockdown Activities For Adults

Some form of lockdown looks set to continue for the foreseeable future and the whole world is adapting to something many of us presumed we had perfected long ago – spending quality time at home, staying as healthy as possible and nourishing ourselves with food, intellectual stimulation and uplifting stories.

The obvious difference right now is that with partners and kids living in one another’s pockets practically 24/7, it can be tough balancing group activities with cathartic solo pastimes that keep you in good spirits and stop you climbing up the walls with boredom and frustration.

So we’ve trawled the web to find three awesome lockdown activities to suit the diverse tastes of adult family members – take a look and see if any of them float your self-care boat.

Jonny and I are watching a LOT of TV, but what happens when we complete Netflix?! Ha ha, seriously though, we do need other things to entertain us!
  1. YouTube bodyweight workouts

Joe Wicks is working wonders with keeping kids and their parents as healthy as possible right now and the benefits of home workouts are thrown into sharp relief.

For an alternative, try this POPSUGAR Fitness beginner’s bodyweight workout – no equipment is needed and it’s accessible for anyone. Seek professional about exercising if you have pre-existing or current medical conditions, but these type of DIY workouts will become daily fixtures for millions of families soon, so if you’re feeling fine, why not give them a whirl?

  • Writing tips

Maya Angelou said that ‘there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you’.

So if you’ve always wanted to write a short story, book, play or film script that shares your unique perspective on the world, more time at home offers you the perfect opportunity to wax lyrical.

There’s nothing wrong with free-flow writing exercises to get your creative juices flowing, but if you want a story that sticks in the collective consciousness, getting to grips with five-act story structure really helps. To get started, check out John Yorke Story’s writing tips for creative ideas from one of British TV’s greatest screenwriters.

  • Online degrees

Been wanting to change careers for a while and you now find yourself facing job uncertainty?

Or perhaps you’re already on furlough and (funds permitting) fancy upskilling for a promotion or a career change when the world returns to some sort of ‘new normal’?

Online degrees from Anglia Ruskin University Distance Learning  or similar providers empower you with skills that employers are yearning for – like digital marketing, business management, healthcare management and psychology. And flexible home study means you can fit in modules at times that don’t disrupt family life and ensure you can cope with any work commitments too, so what’s not to love?

And if you already have a degree, how about beginning your MBA?!

These there awesome lockdown activities for adults offer only a taster of the terrific distractions that can energize you while you’re stuck at home.

But in a small yet significant way, they could motivate you to keep pushing ahead during these terribly tough times.

While family and community bonds eclipse individualism now more than ever, a little ‘me time’ might help you discover your true calling or at least stay calm and composed in a challenging domestic environment.

Collaboration.
