4 Ways To Make The Best Of Your Garden This Autumn

As the UK is seemingly preparing for another lockdown, it looks like we may all be spending a lot more time at home. During the Spring and Summer of 2020, many of us lucky enough to have access to our own garden spaces will understand the positive impact that having a change of scene can have on our overall physical and mental wellbeing.

However, these gorgeous outdoor spaces we created weren’t just for use from April to August. A garden is not just a place to plant herbs and flowers, it is an extension to our homes and a gathering space for some of our friends and families to enjoy socialising together.

Here are some simple and effective ideas for making the most of your garden during Autumn and beyond

Create a Cozy Outdoor Living Space

The Garden living room may sound a bit ‘Ground Force’ circa 1999, but since the garden can be an extension of your home, creating an outdoor living room makes sense for those who choose to socialise with friends outside in the midst of the pandemic.

Outdoor safe furniture, chairs, tables, even waterproof sofas can make all the difference when it comes to creating an inviting space. Hot tubs aren’t just for the summer, either- just make sure to have enough towels and dressing gowns to fight against the chill as you get out.

Consider building a pergola which can provide shelter against bad weather when protected by a canopy.

Keep The Chill Away with Outdoor Heating

The UK isn’t exactly blessed with warm weather- aside from a few hot days here and there. That means investing in some good outdoor heating. Standing electric heaters are a popular choice for garden parties, but how about a fire pit for an autumn firework gathering? Make an evening of it by baking potatoes in foil and roasting marshmallows for s’mores.

Light up the Darkness

As the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer it may feel as though you can only make the most of the garden between the hours of 9am and 3pm. That doesn’t have to be the case with some clever outdoor lighting. Solar lights are a great solution during sunny weather, but without much sunlight during autumn and winter, you may struggle to find enough sun to charge them. Try creating a cosy atmosphere by using large candles and wind up weatherproof lamps.

Dine ‘In-Out’- Make Your own back garden brasserie

Al Fresco cooking doesn’t have to be limited to that BBQ that has been gathering rainwater for the other 11 months of the year that it’s not being used. Why not invest in a clay pizza oven to create your very own pizzeria experience at home? Paired with some mood lighting and music, you’ve got yourself an intimate and romantic setting for an at-home date night or a safe space for friends and family to gather.

Create a mini herb garden for your homegrown herbs that can be added to dishes cooked in the outdoor garden.

Collaboration.
