An Aquatic Legacy!

How do you fancy swimming in a pool of champions?

One of London 2012’s best-known venues opens its doors to the public on Saturday 1st March 2014 so the question does not pose a prospect you have to wait for and having seen it for myself, I have to say, as far as legacy goes… it’s a pretty great one!

Today I had a sneaky peak at what the public have held in store for swimming in East London and I was in very good company as just before I took to the water myself, Tom Daly, British diving champion was doing what he does best from the boards in this most iconic of pools!

The world class Olympic legacy venue houses two 50m pools, a 25m diving pool, a state-of-the-art gym and a creche. The centre will be used regularly as an international training venue for elite athletes but also, daily as a pool for the public! From 10am – 6pm you can swim where the medals were won and whether you’re in it for fun or training, whatever your age or skill, there is something for you!

The training pool has a floor which moves to change the depth and at times will boast floats and fun equipment for children as well as lanes to swim properly! The competition pool is, as you would imagine, just as stunning as I remember it from the television!

This pool, (London’s best and quite probably and according to the manager, the world’s best) is going to be open for everyone to join in! It will also feature heavily in the upcoming Sport Relief as well as other television and sporting projects. It is an awe inspiring place to be and my children thoroughly enjoyed their swim as did I!

Next week when the centre is open fully there will be a state of the art gym where people exercising can watch the swimming through the windows where once television and media crews gathered to record the action! This is now a family venue, somewhere to be proud of and to enjoy all at the same time!

It may be nearly two year’s ago but today has left me once again proud of all we achieved in this country when we hosted the Olympics! Well done London, we can’t wait to go swimming again soon!

I was very impressed and will be back for a session in the gym next week when the children will get to try out the creche and also have another fun swim!
