On Saturday we had a most unexpected day because although we knew we were headed to London for the premiere screening of Digby Dragon (a new show to Nick Jr. which launches at 4.30pm today – 4th July) we didn’t know that we were going to spend the whole day there until the last minute.
When I told a friend that we were London bound she told me that Florence’s old Girl’s Brigade were meeting in the Olympic Park for an afternoon of fun and suggested, if the timings were right, that Florence join them. As luck would have it the timings were all perfect and when I told her where she was going she literally jumped off the floor on her bottom. I’m not even sure how she managed to do that but seriously, this was the level of excitement! While we were actually in London another friend got in touch to invite us to a BBQ and in a wonderful difference to sod’s law again the time was perfect. It just made our day absolutely and mixed in with a yummy lunch from the Liberty Cheesesteak Company we couldn’t have had a better day! I got it all in a Vlog which is linked at the bottom of this post so do check that out too!
Digby Dragon!
We are very lucky and get to go to premiere screenings quite a bit. Sometimes they’re good, other times not so much and then occasionally they are flipping fantastic! Digby Dragon just s happens to be in the latter category. Oh he’s SO sweet and the stories are wonderfully modern but with a real old fashioned edge and both of my children were utterly tuned in from the second the curtain was up! They kept looking at me and giving me the thumbs up with massive grins on their faces – pretty happy making for me too then! ON the way out one child was actually SCREAMING and having a tantrum because she wanted to watch MORE DIGBY DRAGON and my two have been eagery watching the advert to say it will be on Nick Jr at 4.30pm today and looking forward to more episodes with the Scottish sounding Digby Dragon!
The pre-show party was also LOADS of fun and we got to do a touch of celeb spotting as well as enjoying all the yummy food and games. I went to drama school just around the corner from the party venue and funnily enough there was a fellow Conti girl in attendance although this one has done rather a bit more substantial acting work than me! Lucy Speed was lovely to chat with and we reminisced about old school days and favourite teachers while Florence and Jimmy as well as her little girl, enjoyed the party!
We left the Barbican and headed straight to the Olympic Park where Florence literally jumped into her old teacher and Girl’s Brigade leader’s arms! She does love her new school and has made some fabulous new friends but boy she misses those girls she’s known all her life and seeing so many of our old friends on Saturday was just what she needed!
And while she was living it up at the Tumbling Bay playground Jimmy and I headed back to Liverpool Street to check out the Liberty Cheesesteak Company who make Philly steaks as authentic as they can be! JP, the owner and true Philadelphian talks on my vlog about his fab business with its yummy food but for now take a little look at this pic, YUM!
I left luch having had a whisky with a beer chaser (yes, that’s the way round it was) and because Jimmy had been asleep and was in a bit of a grump meaning I couldn’t stay long, JP gave me a beer for the road. Open. In my bag… It started of wedged in and upright but after rummaging for my ticket and forgetting about the beer it ended up on its side and leaking all over (typical for me) Reading Rhino who we had been charged with for the weekend and brought to London to take pictures of Florence reading in the Olympic Park for her school book… All weekend I spent trying to think of a decent story to tell the teacher as to why Reading Rhino stinks of American Beer but in the end I decided honesty was the best policy. She either believes me and thinks I’m a liability or she doesn’t believe me and thinks I’m a lush who can’t even take a picture for the school book without a beer in my hand. Oh well… Not much I can do about it now!
When we finally got to our friend’s house at about 5.30 we were tired but very pleased to see SO many faces we’ve been missing! It made us late home (children didn’t go to bed until nearly 11) but it was SO worth it! We loved Digby Dragon and we loved the Liberty Cheesesteak Company but most of all we just LOVED seeing our pals! What a lovely day!
Don’t forget to watch our vlog:
We were invited to the premiere of Digby Dragon by Nick Jr and we were invited to try the Liberty Cheesesteak Company at a special Blogger lunch.
