The Holdalls’ Christmas Adenture!

Another day, another theatre trip. Today we went off to one of our favourite theatre venues, The Greenwich Theatre, with a little pal of ours and his Mummy and had a little one’s day out. The big kid’s at school it was a day for just me and Jimmy to bond over some great performance and spends some quality time together.

I suspected it would be good as we’ve seen other performances produced by Gomito Productions and we weren’t disappointed at all. The Holdalls’ Christmas Adventure is showing from now until 24th December in Greenwich and from 27th- 29th December at The Lowry, Salford Quays. There was colouring in to do in the foyer and as we waited for the show to start we didn’t even realise at first that it already had when the actors came out to invite us into their living room and join them for the adventure!

And into their living room we went to sit on the carpet, relax and enjoy. Esme and William, the two children of the story, chatted with us and asked us to hold onto some tinsel for them as they would be needing it later on and then they began telling us their story.

They, along with help from the hero of the tale their bear, acted out the adventure he goes on in order to save the Christmas presents which are mysteriously disappearing from houses everywhere! Up the chimney they fly but where do they go next and why? We see bear set sail on the high seas with a pirate and meet the fairy who has lost her wand. We see him win over the snow monster and save Christmas with a very special and happy ending indeed!

It was just right for little boys (and girls) of 2 years old (although Florence would have loved it too) and I thoroughly enjoyed the clever and extremely energetic performances from the two main characters. For us, it was probably just the wrong time of day as Jimmy would usually be napping and he got a little restless towards the end, he even tried to go to sleep on the leg of the lady next to us and when snow came down he couldn’t resist rushing to pick some up as he wasn’t really in the mood for sitting but I know if it had been an earlier showing he would have sat happily. He still enjoyed it, absolutely, but tiredness and little boys don’t go well together which was the only shame.

I thought it was so well thought out, the props were just delightful and I didn’t doubt for a second the child like qualities of the two adult actors playing a little brother and sister. Delightful! Well done them and if you get the chance then I’d absolutely make time to go and see it, thoroughly recommend!

We were provided complimentary tickets for the purpose of an honest review.
