After Florence’s first day of school and the end of her first week I decided to make our very first Friday Night Treat a pirate themed one! Both children loved it and it was so easy!
I bought a table cloth, silver paper plates and some curly straws from Poundland along with a glass jug (I will use all again) and then created the rest of the bits using things we already had like a fish ice cube tray from Ikea.
We started with a treasure map main course of Birds Eye Dhicken Dipper and pea palm trees, some Iceland letter spelling ‘Arr’ and little Kilner pots filled with Heinz Ketchup. I drew, with nail varnish, a red X marks the spot on the glass pot lids!
To drink I made the sea with fish swimming in it! This was just the fish ice cube trays filled with squash and a tiny dot of blue food colouring to make them have blue backs and then added to a jug of water they turn it blue as they melt as well as flavouring the water with the squash! The curly straws look fab in some Ikea paper cups I had in the cupboard from ages ago!
Next they had to sail the high seas on their fruit pirate ship which is a slice of melon with a rectangle of melon, a satsuma segment and a blueberry skewered on with a home-made pirate flag. Just a cocktail stick, crayon, glue and paper!
Then it was time for the REAL treasure! A Cadbury’s mini roll sliced in the middle and stuffed with chocolate crispie cake decorations and finished of with a couple of Oreos that I spray painted with edible gold paint on the side!
They loved it!
Next week for Friday night treat tea we are having a Princess theme!
Love this tea time treat.
I’m definitely going to try the melon pirate ships, they look great!
I’ll be having a go at this for my grandson 🙂
