Rio Tea – Friday Night Treat Tea!

Jimmy decided that for this week’s theme we woud have ‘Rio’! I think he meant the film but I found that quite hard to do so I sort of incorporated all things Rio and added lots of colour, carnival vibes and of course parrots so that it would be a little like the film!

We had friends with us this week which made it extra fun and this is what we got up to for our Rio Tea!

I made pizza and dough balls with garlic butter and tried to create parrots with salami and peppers to make them Rio themed!

I actually think they came out rather well even if I do say so myself! Florence loves dough balls with home made garlic butter to dip them in so she was particularly pleased!

I bought some fancy straws from Poundland to make our carnival cups (cups from Ikea) which we just filled with water!

Now this parrot has to be one of the best things I have ever created! Totally copied from something I saw on Pinterest but I changed it a little to make it my own. It literally took me five minutes to make and as you can see… It’s really rather good! The beak and eyes are made from fresh figs and stuck in with cocktail sticks. I wanted to get cocktail umbrellas for the children to pick out their pineapple chunks from the main pineapple base but I couldn’t find any so they used regular sticks instead!
Rio Tea 5
They really enjoyed the pineapple and ate the whole thing, beak and all!

As I had made cookies th day beforefor the Macmillan coffee morning at Florence’s school, I made some extras and tried to shape them into feathers. I then bought carnival colour cake decorations and icing from Poundland for the children to get creative. The Jane Asher range is such a bargain and at the moment it’s any two items for a £1, even better!

They had loads of fun decorating the feathers!

So that was our Rio Tea and now I’ve got to get thinking about next week which I think is going to be ‘Under The Sea’ themed!
