Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Sausages – Home Made Sausage Rolls Recipe!

This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

I love summer food with the picnics and BBQs. There’s something really quite lovely about al fresco dining and yes, I know we can never rely on the good old British weather but we can certainly rely on good old British foodie staples so why wouldn’t we enjoy them come rain or shine?

We’ve been known to BBQ under a brolly probably more often than not because frankly, we don’t want to miss out just because it’s a little damp and it’s the same when it comes to a picnic! We’re typically British, we wouldn’t let a little rain stop us!

Some of my favourite things to cook on a BBQ are sausages (mainly to use as a vessel for American mustard), ribs and chicken wings not to mention the burgers! I always do a little bit of bacon to go with the cheese for ours and the kiddos love them. Sainsbury’s have a fab BBQ range as ever this summer and their new revamped Taste the Difference sausages are absolutely awesome! All 23 varieties are now gluten free which is perfect because why do they need gluten in them to start with but secondly, without thinking it means everyone can be catered for no matter their dietry requirements. They also come in a new snazzy snap pack, meaning you can cook half and freeze half which is perfect with little ones that don’t eat as much as us adults!

I really love the Caramelised Red Onion sausages but there’s loads of traditional and some not so traditionial flavour combinations in the range. Lamb & Mint Chipolatas can be combined with feta, cucumber and creamy tzatziki in warm pitta bread, or you could use Chorizo Style Sausages by adding them to a one pot rice dish with prawns and peas for an everyday riff on paella. Sounds good huh?!

Well, because we’ve had a fair few BBQs while we’ve ben camping I wanted to make something a little bit different with my snap pack of Taste The Difference sausages and I made some incredibly tasty but super easy home made sausage rolls for a picnic. All I did was buy soem of the ready to roll puff pasty from Sainsbury’s to go with the sausage meat I had squeezed from the sausage skins and beat up an egg with milk for an egg wash. I added absoltely nothing to the ingredients of the Caramelised Red Onion sausage meat itself but I did also use some Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference onion chutney to make them super unctious. Once the pastry was rolled into a long oblong I simply spread a small amount of the chutney over the middle before laying the meat (still in sausage shape) along the top. I then closed the pastry by rolling it over and using the egg mixture as a glue. Next I scored lines along the top of the rolls, washed with more egg and backed in the oven for around half an hour on 200.

The result!
