Snow White At St George’s Theatre Great Yarmouth!
Who knew that pantomime in a small theatre would be the very best pantomime of all?! Well, yes, I have to admit, I knew! But if you haven’t been privy to this piece of information yet, then take it from me and run with it. Sure, booking big theatres with big names as their stars can be fun, and there’s no two ways about it, ALL theatre is struggling financially so supporting any live entertainment is a good thing, but… Pantomime was traditionally created as a way of theatres making enough money to survive the year. Everyone would go at Christmas for some festive cheer, and enjoy all the age-old panto vibes of “it’s behind you”, “Oh no it isn’t-ing”, laughing along with the Dame and revelling in a live theatre experience which is far more immersive than most and their ticket price sustained theatres. That’s why it began and why it continued, I’m not sure if it’s much different today really but like lots of things which begin with one purpose but obtain others, pantomime has so many reasons to being the stalwart of the festive theatre calendar. And… For my money, I’d rather support small. I prefer no big names, no massive ticket prices but instead inclusive ones that most can afford, and I love how passionate actors are who are prepared to take on a stint, it’s a slog, and not one I’d want to do at that. These guys GRAFT! And they deserve your patronage!
We went to the St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth on Saturday night to see their Snow White, and you know what?! Best panto I’ve ever seen! We LOVED every single second. Even though we were exhausted from a party the night before, it just couldn’t have been any better. The cast are superbly talented, the script is wickedly funny, on trend and yet typical to good old panto values at the same time, and every single element was hugely enjoyable.
We laughed and joined in, we boo-ed, hissed and wondered at the absolutely fantastic sets and costumes (the dwarves are something else – you just HAVE to see how clever they are)!
So, if you’re off to panto this season and haven’t decided which one yet, then do check out the St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth for their Snow White – it’s terrific. Yes, you have to go to Great Yarmouth (I’m not a fan and only deem a visit worth it for a few certain things) but the journey is worth it and the theatre is simply gorgeous, what a resource for the town that so desperately need an injection of good. You’d be surprised at how wonderful the arts scene is in GY actually, it’s one thing I always note and am pleased about because goodness me it needs something uplifting, and it does have it in Snow White! I’d go again and I highly recommend it, so do the children!
The ice cream is pretty decent too and definitely worth a treat in the interval!
To book tickets to see Snow White in Great Yarmouth please book on line with the theatre. A family ticket of two adult and two children is £49 and it’s playing until New Year’s Eve!
We were invited to see Snow White as guests of the theatre.
