Getting Your Garden Ready for the Summer Season
We are almost halfway through the year which means that summer is upon us and we are ready for some heat, green grass, and dandelions blowing in the wind. Who wants to spend long days inside the house when the Sun is shining in your garden?
It’s that time of year now where the barbeque is broken out and the brand new garden structures are put up ready for entertainment. You want to make sure that your garden survives the summer heat, that all of your outdoor equipment is clean, and you are ready to bring your friends over. So, what could you do to get your garden summer ready?
- Spring clean the space. As we move into the summer, it’s the perfect time to get ready by cleaning everything. We’re talking pressure washing the decking, mowing the lawns and seeing the quality of the grass, washing the barbeque and all of your outdoor furniture, and even washing your outdoor equipment. Weeds can grow like wildfire in the lead up to the summer, and instead of letting the seeds spread you need to get them out of control.
- Give your garden a feed. By boosting your garden with the right nutrients, you’ll be able to encourage growth of all of your favorite plants and flowers. Adding a good fertilizer can feed the plants and make sure that there are no mineral deficiencies to worry about before the heat ramp8s up. Always fertilize before you mulch so that you can hold the nutrients in place and encourage your garden to grow. There are plenty of slow release fertilizers that you can use through the year as well, so that you can really sort the nutrients gradually.
- Speaking of mulch. Mulch can help to protect your plants from drying out. It will also keep the nutrients where they’re supposed to be, and you can choose bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw to help. When you keep the soil moist and cool, you’ll be able to inhibit weed growth and encourage flower growth. Your geyser needs to be pretty for the summer and that means you need to have lots of colorful flowers along the way.
- Wash your furniture. If you put your furniture in the shed then it’s time to get it cleaned up. Some simple dishwashing liquid and the hose should do the job. You can then check the condition to make sure that your furniture is still usable.
- Add some lighting. With the nights going shorter and the evenings growing longer, you need to make sure that you’ve got some pretty lighting in the garden ready for your long time entertainment. Think fairy lights in the bushes and solar lighting along the paths. You want to create an ambiance, so You might even want to install a fire pit so that during those summer nights as the sun goes down the fire can be crackling high and you can even cook marshmallows on it!
