Looking Forward!

When we went on holiday a couple of year’s ago we set off from Norwich airport, flew over half way to our destination and then something happened to the plane’s engine which meant we had to return to our departure airport. For a rather nervous flyer like myself this was not the best news as it meant that as well as the prospect of a dodgy engine I would have to endure double the length of flying with an extra landing and take-off… Little did I know the hours upon hours I would have in-between flights to come to terms with the idea!

To say we were delayed was an understatement and it meant we lost a whole day of our holiday. NOT ideal and yet we just had to suck it up, or so we thought… We found out by word of mouth from other holiday makers in our hotel that we could claim compensation for the delay which sounded fab but when we looked into it the process seemed terribly laborious and time consuming. It was kind of off putting but I guess that’s what the airlines rely on, the fact people can’t be bothered to do it, and I did umm and ahh whether I should waste the time? In the end, because I’m like a dog with a bone, I did pursue it and we got a whopping THOUSAND pounds in compo meaning I was VERY glad that I had but it really was a mission and a half and had I known about Flightright, a company who will do the application and fight your claim on your behalf, I think I would have engaged them instead of myself and taken the load off! The amount of money I was compensated was enough for me to want to give up 20-30% in their fee (the service is free if unsuccessful) considering the aggro it caused me, in fact, it sounds like a dream!

So, I was thinking, if I would be willing to let Flightright sort out my legal bits and compensation for a delayed flight, a cancellation or something else similar (and I did and do have the stamina to keep going with the paperwork and hoops my holiday company made me jump through) then I would imagine the person (and it’s most believe it or not) who decides not to bother would jump at the chance. After all, 70-80% of flight delay compensation for doing nothing other than telling Flightright about your delay or cancellation is infinitely better than 0% of nothing!

I’m so up for fairness and I’m beyond thrilled that we have the ability to stand up and be counted when we don’t get a service delivered that we have paid for. I’m even more ecstatic that there’s a company who will take it all on for me! Because, while yes it’s true that the issue might not have been at the true fault of the airline themselves and may very well have been completely out of their control, you can bet your bottom dollar they’re claiming on their insurance for it so I’ll be damned if I’m just going to suck up a delayed flight ever again that’s for sure!

I am SO looking forward to when we can book our next flight and holiday and recreate this scene!

I keep thinking about all the holiday makers and flights booked to spend time with family that won’t be taking place right now because of this awful virus and thanking my lucky stars that we hadn’t booked our family vay-cay just yet – if I had I’d definitely be wanting to get some justice so that I could rebook when the time is right. And I myself am SO looking forward to when the time comes that we CAN start booking flights and holidays again! I keep dreaming of golden sand between my toes and a calm Mediterranean sea lapping gently that will welcome me first thing for a sunrise dip. I loved our James Villa that we hired in Menorca a couple of years ago and the chilled vibe of something like that is very appealing! It seems a long way off for us all right now but rainbows always appear when the sunshine comes out after a bad storm so I think we have to just keep chasing those rainbows hoping for better days to come. Better days when delays and waiting are far behind us and the tempting holiday vibes are open for all – here’s hoping and a big old cheers to that!
